Traditional Usui Reiki (pronounced ray-key)
Is a laying-on of hands healing technique thought to be thousands of years old. Allegedly, it originated as a Tibetan Buddhist practice that was rediscovered in the late 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. It is very simple yet powerful healing art that can be used on your self as well as others and can easily be learned by everyone.

The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words - REI meaning Universal Spirit, and KI meaning Life Force Energy. The word Reiki, therefore, refers to a balanced cosmic and life force energy. Because of its qualities of universal energy, it seems to have a basic consciousness which, when used for healing, is able to provide exactly what is needed on all levels. Reiki treatments work by dissolving or eliminating toxic energy and substances from many levels of ones being whether it be physical, emotional, mental or beyond. It also works to strengthening the harmonious forces at the same time. Reiki helps to create a harmonious environment within ones being so true healing can take place.

Healers that have been attuned to the Reiki healing current will find that their natural healing energies are enhanced. They also describe their healing energies as being more powerful and directed than before.

It is the unique blend of energy which makes the Reiki current such a powerful form of life force and which lends it the amazing ability to heal not just the physical body, but also on mental, emotional and spiritual levels as well. As one is opened up through the attunement process, that person becomes an open channel for the Reiki energy to flow through. The energy is constantly circulating in their body and energy field from that point on. Additionally, when they place their hands on an object, whether it be a person, pet, tree or crystal, the energy flows into that object as well.

Reiki is transferred to students by Reiki Master Teachers through a series of attunements. During an attunement process, a series of symbols are sealed into the person's energy field. The attunement process opens up an individual permanently to the Reiki energy so that one can give Reiki treatments to self and others. Reiki has been traditional taught in three degrees or levels and there is a specific attunement for each degree of training.

Kundalini Reiki

By opening/strengthening the energy channels of the body, it is possible to channel healing Reiki energy to yourself and others, just by intention.

Kundalini is a special kind of Reiki, in that you will not just be connected to the Universal Life Energy, but your own personal energy, your Kundalini, will be awakened.

The Kundalini energy lays dormant at the base of the spine (the root chakra) until it is awakened and can flow through the energy systems of the body. Kundalini awakening can be a dangerous experience if not done correctly, that is why these attunements have been brought into the world. These attunements with SAFELY awaken your Kundalini life force within you, so it may cleanse your chakras, and act as a path of healing to pass onto others and yourself.

These attunements only give you the amount of energy that is needed for your body, and this is the key to the safe activation of your Kundalini. If not done in a safe way, it can cause physical and energetic problems in the body. People who have had problems with Kundalini awakening can often be helped with Kundalini Reiki.

Kundalini Reiki as a healing system utilizes the channel created by the Kundalini energy to harness the power of Reiki at a very high strength. Using the Reiki this way, the treatment times are a lot shorter in time, yet are as effective as the treatments received during a standard Usui Reiki treatment.

Karuna Reiki

Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is used in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is translanted to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and could also be translated as "compassionate action." When individuals experience enlightenment, they report that all beings are known as one. Therefore, it is natural to extend compassionate action or Karuna to everyone without distinction because we are all one. As we help others and aid them in their healing process, all beings benefit. In the same way that you would want to heal your own wounds, you would also want the wounds of others to heal.

Karuna Reiki was founded by William Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training. The Karuna classes are for anyone who have completed Reiki Master training. William Rand and his associates have experimented with and taught this system since 1994 and have found it to be effective and powerful.

In fact, most students find it more powerful than Usui Reiki! The energy has a more definite feeling to it. It works on the emotional and spiritual levels and also can help one become more grounded. Those who receive the attunements report experiences with their guides, angels, and higher self and feel the healing presence of other enlightened beings.
